LUZQ DM

Your website · your web address

Connect the address you already have.

You keep owning it. You copy two settings into the place you bought it, and your new website shows up there. Your email keeps working.

It takes about 5 minutes. We never need your password, and we can call you and do it together.

How it works

  1. Tell us your address on the form. Where you bought it, and whether you get email on it. That’s all we need.
  2. We send you two settings. One for your address itself, one for the www in front of it. We send the exact values for your site, because they’re different for every site.
  3. You copy them in. Follow the steps for where you bought it, below. Or forward our email to whoever looks after it for you.
  4. We check it’s connected and tell you when your new site is live on it. Most changes show up within an hour; some take up to 48 hours.

The two settings

Every provider calls them DNS records. They look like this, with the values we send you:

  • Type: A · Name or Host: @ · Value: the number we send you (often 76.76.21.21)
  • Type: CNAME · Name or Host: www · Value: the name we send you

Your email keeps working. Change only these two. Leave your MX and TXT records alone, and don’t change your nameservers: that’s the one change that can stop email.

Already have an A record for @, or a www record? Edit it, or delete the old one, so there’s only one of each. If there’s an AAAA record for @, delete it too.

Where you bought it

GoDaddy

  1. Sign in to GoDaddy and open your Domain Portfolio.
  2. Select your domain, then select DNS.
  3. Find the A record named @, select Edit and put our number in Value. No A record? Select Add New Record, Type A, Name @.
  4. Find the CNAME named www, select Edit and put our name in Value. Most GoDaddy domains already have one, so edit it rather than adding a second.
  5. Select Save. If GoDaddy asks for a code, that’s its own Domain Protection check.

Namecheap

  1. Sign in, select Domain List, then Manage next to your domain.
  2. Open the Advanced DNS tab.
  3. Under Host Records, select Add New Record: A Record, Host @, our number as the value. Save it with the green check.
  4. Add another: CNAME Record, Host www, our name as the value. Select Save All Changes.
  5. Delete Namecheap’s parking records with the trash icon: the URL Redirect for @ and the www CNAME that points to parkingpage.namecheap.com.

Is your domain on Namecheap’s web hosting? Then the records are set in cPanel instead. Tell us and we’ll help.

Squarespace or Google Domains

Had a Google Domain? It’s managed at Squarespace now, with the same steps.

  1. Open your Squarespace domains page (account.squarespace.com/domains) and select your domain.
  2. Select DNS, then DNS Settings. Scroll to Custom Records and select Add record. Squarespace may ask for your password or a code first.
  3. Type A, Name @, our number in IP Address. Save.
  4. Type CNAME, Name www, our name in Data. Save.
  5. Delete the Squarespace Defaults records with the red trash can. If you use PayPal Payment Links through Squarespace, tell us first: Squarespace says those stop working without them.

Wix

  1. Open Domains in your Wix account.
  2. Select the Domain Actions icon next to your domain, then Manage DNS Records.
  3. In A (Host), select + Add Record. Leave Host Name blank and put our number in Value. Select Save, then Save Changes.
  4. Delete the old A records: the Domain Actions icon next to each, then Delete.
  5. In CNAME (Aliases), select + Add Record: Host Name www, our name in Value. Save, then delete the old www CNAME.

Keep Wix’s nameservers. You only change these records.

IONOS

  1. Log in and open Domains & SSL. Open the Actions menu next to your domain, then DNS.
  2. Edit the A record (the pencil) and put our number in Points to. No A record? Select Add record, then A, with Host name @.
  3. Make sure it’s the only A record for your address.
  4. For www: under Actions, open Manage Subdomains. Next to www, open DNS, then Add record, then CNAME: Hostname www, our name in Point to. Save.

Cloudflare

  1. In the Cloudflare dashboard, pick your domain and open DNS, then Records.
  2. Edit the A record for @ (or Add record): our number in IPv4 address.
  3. Set Proxy status to DNS only (the gray cloud), then Save. The orange cloud stops your new site from connecting.
  4. Edit or add the CNAME for www: our name in Target, Proxy status DNS only. Save.
  5. Delete any other A, AAAA or CNAME records for @ or www that point somewhere else.

Network Solutions, or anywhere else

Look for DNS, DNS records or Advanced DNS next to your domain. The two settings are the same everywhere. Not sure? Reply to our email and we’ll call you and do it together.

Someone else looks after it

Forward them our email with the two settings. Anyone who looks after web addresses knows what to do with two DNS records.

Your password stays yours

We never ask for the password to GoDaddy, Squarespace or anywhere else, so please don’t send it. Your address stays in your name, in your account.
