Websites for California care homes.

A website for your California home, for $300 flat.

California sorts adult homes by age first, then by need. Below: the licence names, linked to the code and to the Department of Social Services, and what to put on your site.

The names

The Department of Social Services (CDSS), through its Community Care Licensing Division, licenses the homes on this page. Each kind links to its source.

Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE)

Housing with care and supervision, chosen by people 60 or over.

Adult Residential Facility (ARF)

24-hour non-medical care for adults 18 to 59 (and some people 60 or over) with a mental, physical or developmental disability.

Agency CDSS Community Care Licensing, Adult Care Licensing

Read the rule CDSS Adult Care Licensing

Adult Residential Facility for Persons with Special Health Care Needs (ARFPSHN)

Licensed to serve up to five adults with developmental disabilities.

Agency CDSS

Read the rule CDSS Adult Care Licensing Welfare and Institutions Code 4684.50

Enhanced Behavioral Support Home (EBSH)

An adult residential facility giving 24-hour non-medical care to people with developmental disabilities who need enhanced behavioral supports. The Community Crisis Home (CCH) is a related type.

Not for adults: a Small Family Home is a licence for foster children. If you serve adults, it isn’t your category.

Checked against each linked page on 1 October 2026. This is a plain summary, not legal advice: the rule itself, or the agency, has the final word.

Your site

  1. Lead with age. An RCFE serves people 60 or over; an adult residential facility serves adults 18 to 59. Say who you serve, with the ages, in the first lines of your site.
  2. Write the letters, then what they mean. People search for “RCFE” by the letters. Use them, and spell out residential care facility for the elderly once, for the family that has never heard of one.
  3. For developmental disabilities, name the type. If you’re an ARFPSHN or an EBSH, say which, and then say it in plain words: who lives with you and what support you give.
  4. Six or fewer. California law treats a home serving six or fewer people as a residential use of the house for zoning (Health and Safety Code 1566). Your site doesn’t need to argue it; it’s one more reason to look and read like the home you are.
  5. Real rooms, a phone, a tour form. Corrected photos of the actual house, a number that gets answered, and a tour form that works at night.
